Who We Are

Who We Are

Welcome to Drexel Hill Church. We are a community defined by our encounter with Jesus and our love for one another. For over seventy years, this stone church on Garrett Road has stood in Drexel Hill through seasons of faith, hardship, and renewal. Today we are a house of prayer and worship — rooted in Jesus, led by His Spirit, and committed to seeing lives made whole in this community and beyond.

Our Vision

Our Vision

Drexel Hill Church is a house of prayer and worship for all nations — anointed by the Spirit, led by Jesus, and rooted in the goodness of God. We exist for the broken to be made whole, the hurting to be healed, and the captive to be set free — thereby forming a covenant family who experience and advance the Kingdom of God in love and in power.

Seven Pillars

“Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn her seven pillars.” — Proverbs 9:1

These pillars hold up the life we share as a church family. They shape how we follow Jesus, how we treat one another, and how we carry His Kingdom into this community.

KINGDOM FIRST

We live and lead with eternity’s priorities shaping present decisions.

Matthew 6:33, Matthew 6:10, Colossians 3:1–2, Acts 1:8

GOD IS GOOD

God is a good Father — not distant, not punishing, not withholding. His nature is grace and compassion, and Jesus is the fullest revelation of that goodness. We build our entire culture on this foundation.

Psalm 103:8, James 1:17, John 3:16–17, Lamentations 3:22–23

ENCOUNTERING GOD

Scripture is the foundation of everything we believe and practice, and the Holy Spirit illuminates the Word as the Word governs our experience. We pursue authentic encounter with God as the foundation of everything we do — prayer is not a program, but the primary language of a people who live in His presence.

John 4:23–24, 2 Timothy 3:16–17, Psalm 27:4, James 4:8

BECOMING LIKE JESUS

We are new creations in Christ — not sinners being managed, but saints being formed. We believe every person can be fully free in Christ, in spirit, soul, and body, and we are committed to the whole-person development of every believer from the inside out.

2 Corinthians 5:17, 2 Corinthians 3:18, John 8:36, Galatians 5:1

LOVING ONE ANOTHER

Jesus called this a new commandment: love one another as He loved us — sacrificially, unconditionally, without limit. We treat people as who God says they are, refusing contempt and seeing the image of God in every person. This love pursues peace and reconciliation where there is fracture, and it is the mark by which the world will know we belong to Him.

John 13:34–35, 1 Corinthians 13:1–3, Romans 12:10, Philippians 2:3

WE ARE FAMILY

We are a covenant household, committed to one another — and we refuse to draw the circle small. Following Jesus, we cross every boundary to love whoever is in front of us, and where there is division, we build bridges.

Ephesians 2:19, Acts 2:42–47, Matthew 7:12, John 13:34–35

ADVANCING HIS KINGDOM

We exist for the city and the world, not just the congregation — sent into every neighborhood, every nation, every sphere of life. We reflect our Father’s extravagant generosity in how we live and give, and we carry with us the ministry of reconciliation as ambassadors of a kingdom where every wall has been torn down.

Matthew 28:18–20, Acts 1:8, Luke 4:18–19, 2 Corinthians 9:6–8

Our Beliefs

We hold to the historic Christian faith and submit our lives to the authority of Scripture. At the center of all we believe and practice is Jesus Christ — the Son of God, God incarnate, and the Head of the Church. Drexel Hill Church affirms the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed as faithful summaries of the core witness of Scripture, received by the church across every age. We also affirm the Evangelical Free Church of America Statement of Faith (2019) as our doctrinal witness. We are not a member congregation of the EFCA, but we have adopted their statement as the clearest and most faithful expression of our evangelical convictions available. Alongside these, we hold four statements on matters requiring clear definition for the life and witness of this congregation. Our full Statement of Faith, including both creeds and the EFCA Statement.

We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.

We believe that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.

We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed.

We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus — Israel’s promised Messiah — was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.

We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.

We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.

We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.

We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.

We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.

We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.
